Brief history
Slurpers participate entirely at their own risk - Acknowledgement and release is required
In 2009, a website was established for citizens of the world to lobby their respective sporting ministers with the sole purpose of convincing them to make Slurping a legitimate sport. Over 100 international sporting bodies, from Albania to Zimbabwe, could be emailed by supporters of the new sport. Not only did they lobby, they also began challenging each other. The sports slurping website quickly became a virtual arena where the world could compete. It was here American, Michael Lipp posted the fastest time in history, an unbeaten and unofficial 26 seconds.
After sending over 52,000 electronic lobby letters and being rejected by nearly every sporting body in the world, on the 2nd of June, 2009 the International Federation of Competitive Eating publicly recognized Slurping as a sport. At last, those participating in the underground slurping competitions being contested in backyards, car parks and bedrooms could step out of the shadows into the international spotlight. The Official Sport of Slurping is currently searching for official world champions.
Performance Tips
The sport of Slurping is the ultimate test of endurance in below freezing conditions, if you discount cross country skiing, bob sledding and curling. Here's some performance enhancing tips to keep you Slurping long and hard.
- Always make sure to keep your extremities covered at all times. Mittens will mean you can hold onto your Slurpee cup for as long as you need to.
- A mouth guard can subdue the pain often felt through the teeth. Such apparatus has not yet been deemed illegal by the Official Sport of Slurping.
- Practice breathing through your nose. This will enable you to take less breaths during competition.
Follow this simple advice and victory will have never tasted so sweet.
Slurping Mandate
Our main goal is the official regulation of competitive Slurping, including developing of official rules and safety standards for all participants to follow. Further goals include, but are not limited to, the following:
- to establish a fair and equitable rating system for the various liquid-centric competitions
- to promote safety measures for participants in the conduct of matches and to ensure that only trained individuals compete in official speed Slurping matches
- to establish and maintain Slurping records
- to compile, categorize and make available to fans of the sport a complete history of competitive Slurping along with an archive of photos and other historic material
- to develop, run and eventually televise the World Championship of Slurping
